Green Construction
Outlet Program for Construction Lab Testing Schedule for Toxicity and Efficiency
The Construction Toxicity and Efficiency R&D program will enable students to comprehend and evaluate the various traditional methods of construction which are toxic and inefficient for the advancement/creation of new construction methods and models. Students in this program will understand the lack of efficiency in the dated methods and materials still used today, while evaluating modern more energy efficient methods and materials currently used today that still need major improvement. While providing current knowledge of construction industry practices and materials, the facilitator will provide the pros and cons of attempted advancements in efficiencies and toxicity reduction in recent years.
The vast research of companies around the world that pursue the elimination of toxicity and greater efficiency in construction methods and materials makes extensive information available on the subject. This program addresses vital problem-solving opportunities which affect all civilized cultures. One major avenue of investigation that is paramount to all people is providing truly affordable housing with safer materials in economically unstable regions. The challenges of affordability, efficiency, and toxicity will be explored from all angles as students work together in a think tank cooperative way in this program.
The Facilitators of this program will combine efforts and share lab environments with the Alternative Building Materials Design and Fabrication program. As always, working within the AGD community campus will maximize this program by aligning with the AGD Mentors Network of professionals in the given industry. Students will have access to not only alternative buildings/materials in use, but also, they will be able to experiment with alternative modern material testing of their own. Students will learn about self-sufficient building advancements in Europe and Asia that have surpassed North American practices.
